Meet our trainers:
Larry Russo
As an owner and head trainer at New Horizon Stables, Larry has created a riding program that focuses on strengthening the bond between the horse and the rider. His vast experience both in the saddle and as an instructor has proved successful for his riders at a variety of levels, from beginners to the highly experienced. His approach to training has always been based on the establishment of a trusting relationship between horse and rider. Whether resolving problematic behaviors in seasoned horses or training of young horses, Larry stresses the importance of the rider’s role as a guide for the horse in order to achieve success.
Devon Russo
As part of her already successful career with many wins in the Jumper, Equitation and Hunter rings, Devon is following in her father’s footsteps as an excellent trainer. As the assistant trainer at New Horizon Stables, she plays a vital role in the development of our riders as well as in the process of training the horses. Her accomplishments in and out of the ring have made her a valuable asset to the New Horizons community.
Lucy Turner
As an integral part of the show team, Lucy has started out her professional career with success. Her focus on creating a solid foundation on the flat mirrors the Russo’s style of teaching and provides the students with the skills that they need to develop as knowledgeable and educated riders.
Lessons
Here at New Horizon Stables we strive to help build a relationship between the horse and rider that sets them up for success. We teach our riders how to ride both correctly and effectively in a manner that allows them to work in a mutually positive relationship with their horses. We believe in creating a strong foundation in our riders in order to aid them in achieving their goals. We focus on our riders developing a correct position that will allow them to successfully guide their horse through whatever obstacles come their way.
We work with a variety of students from first time lead liners to advanced competitive riders. Whether you want to learn how to ride for the first time or if you are a seasoned rider, we have a place in our program that will fit your needs. We offer a wide range of lessons including half hour private, semi private and group lessons. Our lessons run from Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 8 pm.
New students are required to take a half hour evaluation lesson to be placed in our group lesson program. At the beginner level, typically students will take several private lessons before joining a group lesson. Lessons are payable monthly and there are discounts for students who take more than one lesson per week. We also offer Gift certificates, which make great gifts for any horse enthusiast.
Lesson Rates
Private ½ Hour: $40.00
Semi-Private: $35.00
Group Hour: $35.00
